Shakarim University students successfully participated in the 2025–2026 National Student Research Competition (NIRS) in the “Heat Power Engineering” section and were awarded Third-Degree Diplomas of the Ministry.

The results of the competition were evaluated by the competition committee of the host university – Gumarbek Daukeyev Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications. A total of 10 research papers prepared by 14 students under the supervision of 9 academic advisors from five universities of Kazakhstan were submitted in the “Heat Power Engineering” section. According to the decision of the competition committee, one paper was recommended for a First-Degree Diploma, two papers for Second-Degree Diplomas, and three papers for Third-Degree Diplomas.

A Third-Degree Diploma of the Ministry was awarded to second-year Shakarim University students Aruzhan Amandinova and Vadim Karpov for their research paper entitled “Investigation of the Characteristics of Heat Pump Cycles Using Alternative Refrigerants.”

The research was supervised by Mikhail V. Ermolenko, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, and Olga A. Stepanova, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Professor.

Another prize winner was fourth-year Shakarim University student Nurlat Kadybolat, who presented the research paper “Analysis of the Effect of Cr₃C₂–NiCr Anticorrosion Coating on Heat Transfer from BKZ-75 Steam Pipeline Tubes.” The research was also awarded a Third-Degree Diploma of the Ministry.

The research supervisor was Rinat Khamituly Kurmangaliyev, Leading Researcher at the Engineering Center for Strengthening Technologies and Coatings of Shakarim University.

In total, Shakarim University submitted four student research papers to the competition in the “Heat Power Engineering” section. The studies addressed current issues in refrigeration and heat pump technologies, water treatment for heat power facilities, and improving heat-transfer efficiency. Two of the submitted papers were among the prize-winning works.

The topics of the submitted research are aligned with the priorities of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and address important challenges in modern energy engineering. Research on heat pumps, alternative refrigerants, improved heat-transfer efficiency, advanced energy equipment, and water treatment contributes to SDG 6 “Clean Water and Sanitation,” SDG 7 “Affordable and Clean Energy,” SDG 9 “Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure,” SDG 12 “Responsible Consumption and Production,” and SDG 13 “Climate Action.” The development of student research in these areas contributes to engineering solutions aimed at improving energy efficiency, conserving resources, and supporting the sustainable development of the energy sector.

These achievements demonstrate the high level of research training of Shakarim University students, the relevance of their scientific studies, and the effective collaboration between students, faculty members, and researchers of the University. Participation in national research competitions helps students develop research competencies and engineering thinking and encourages young people to contribute to solving sustainable development challenges.
